Advanced Shades and Shadows
Erik Evens, Instructor
Join the Southern California Chapter of the ICAA for an advanced course in drawing shades and shadows, concentrating on the rendering of architectural form, with a focus on the elements of the Classical language. This course builds upon the rules and techniques learned in the basic course, Shades and Shadows for the Practitioner.
The class begins with a review of the basic theory of light, how it falls on surfaces, and general rules for the visualization and construction of shade and shadow in orthographic projection and perspective. Students will then learn to apply this knowledge to a series of exercises focusing on the rendering of various Classical elements.
This is an advanced course. Students are encouraged to have taken Shades and Shadows for the Practitioner as a suggested prerequisite. Materials: 11x14 sketchbook, soft sketching pencils and sharpener, and erasers.
